What To Do On a Rainy Day in Lake Norman?
On average, the Lake Norman (LKN) area boasts well over 225 days of sunshine each year. And, with 520 miles of shoreline and 33 miles long, there is a lot of territory to explore on a sunny day. Most residents here enjoy year-round, “lake life” activities whether it’s boating, fishing, kayaking or just jumping off the end of the dock for a good ‘ol swim! So, besides going to a movie or staying at home to watch Seinfeld reruns, what’s there to do when it’s raining? Well, how about changing your “lake life” perspective and exploring what lives “under” our lake?!
Change Your “Lake Life” Perspective
When you think of “lake life,” you typically think of all the relaxing activities you can do on, in or near the lake. But, what about all of the activity that is going on UNDER the lake’s surface?! You might be surprised to learn that within minutes of Lake Norman is an aquarium. The “SEA LIFE Charlotte-Concord Aquarium” is conveniently located off I-485 in Concord Mills. This completely indoor aquarium is perfect for a rainy day where you can explore little creatures that you might find in Lake Norman to the fresh waters of the Catawba River in the Blue Ridge Mountains and to the salt waters of the Atlantic Ocean and beyond. Enjoy a guided tour or leisurely explore on your own. Don’t forget to stop by the “Touchpool” where you can interact with sea stars, hermit crabs, urchins, and more!
Affordable Fun While Staying Dry
We were also pleasantly surprised to find SEA LIFE offers a variety of discounted rates of admission. As a retired military couple, we greatly appreciated the veteran discount! Next time it rains, consider changing your “lake life” perspective and explore SEA LIFE!
